Going For It Is Your Best Move Yet

My sons are 17 and 19. The one thing I know: if you have nothing in common with them, you will rarely see them. Six years ago my youngest learned to snowboard. For an entire winter, I barely saw him. He said, “Mom, I’m not trying to avoid you, I just want to snowboard.” The next winter, I rented skis and decided to teach myself to ski. I was 44. In no time, I was hooked and the best part? I’ve spent the last 4 winters skiing with him!

Three months ago, my oldest son, Noble texted me at work. “Mom, can you pick up a set of used golf clubs off FB Marketplace?” I thought about learning how to ski so I could spend time with my youngest; now it was time to learn golf to spend time with my oldest. A couple days later, I traded my supervisor a deck cushion box for his golf clubs. For the second time in my life, I scored an 86 for my first 9 holes. That isn't THAT bad! I’m 49 years old! Since that day, I’ve played with my son numerous times AND shaved 34 strokes off my game! My best score for 9 holes has been 52! In 3 months!

Going for it was a WIN! A big fat W! I have a new sport that I play with my son, my fiancé, and even alone. Those kids of wins are life changers. They help you feel good with your family, people you choose to love, AND help find more self-worth.

When was the last time you learned something new?

When was the last time you went out of your comfort zone?

When was the last time you said “F” it and did something new?

I challenge you! Take a leap, move the needle in your life, go for something you don’t even know is missing!? Shake up of who you are! Even better, shake up who everyone ELSE thinks you are! A quote from Lao Tzu that’s helped me GO FOR IT: When I let go of who I am I become what I might be.
